"Those of us who took Econ 101 are prejudiced against planned economies, but perhaps a Soviet-style planned economy is more efficient than a crony capitalist system. In my opinion, this is the big question that we’re going to be working out as a society during the coming decade."

This question has apparently been settled experimentally, and quite a few times. While an ability to reproduce results is scientifically important, this one would be a pity to be "working out" again.
