SPRINGFIELD, IL -- High school students who chronically cut class or drop out altogether would have their drivers' licenses taken away under a bill moving through the state legislature.
The measure would strip drivers' licenses from any student younger than 18 who misses at least 18 days of school during a school year without a valid excuse.
Seventeen other states have similar laws on their books.
The Illinois proposal already has passed the House and is awaiting a Senate vote.
