Jan. 30th, 2007 07:44 amLAWRENCE, Mass - Police reports said that around 1:30 a.m., cab driver Bienvenido Rodriguez picked up a customer headed to Haverhill on South Broadway. While on the way, Rodriguez was waved down by Irene, who asked if he could be taken to Lowell Street. Irene said he only had $5, but Rodriguez agreed to drive him anyway.
The passenger told police that Rodriguez and Irene argued in Spanish, and there was a brief struggle between the two. Irene than allegedly threatened Rodriguez with a knife and grabbed an unknown amount of money that was being stored on the visor.
Irene left the cab and fled down the street, during which at the same time, Rodriguez grabbed his gun and shot Irene in the back.
The alleged robber, Herman Irene, was taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston where he underwent surgery to remove the bullet from his back.
Rodriguez will now face charges of assault with intent to murder.

As for the men who pulled off the robbery, they're still on the loose.

Каждый раз, когда я захожу по дороге с работы в художественный магазин купить простой карандаш или резинку, я радуюсь. Я радуюсь, что не умею рисовать.
Карандашами, тушью, углем, акварельными и масляными красками, гуашью, по холсту и по бумаге (и по другой бумаге и по третьей бумаге), вот такими кисточками и вот такими кисточками. Мне ни к чему деревянныe человечки с гнущимися руками и ногами, скрепленными пружинками.
Кроме того, я не умею лепить из пластилина, и из другого пластилина, и из глины, и на гончарном круге, мне нечего обжигать в муфельной печи, не для чего делать формы из гипса, нечего отливать из свинца. Я не умею резать резцами по дереву. Мне не требуется проводить прямые линии по узким и длинным стальным линейкам, измерять углы транспортирами, нечего растворять растворителями и отверждать отвердителями.
Количество денег, которые я экономлю, не обладая всеми этими навыками, невозможно прикинуть даже приблизительно. Потому что, если бы у меня был хоть малейший к тому повод, я бы не удержался. Я бы скупил там абсолютно всё подчистую.
