Russian Said to Be Ex-Goldman Worker Charged in Theft.

“Aleynikov downloaded the files from the Web site to his home computer, his laptop computer and a portable memory devise,” Michael McSwain, Federal Bureau of Investigation agent, said July 4 in a criminal complaint. The proprietary computer code allows the firm to engage in “sophisticated, high-speed and high-volume trades on various stock and commodities markets,” the government said. The trades generate “many millions of dollars” each year, according to the complaint.

Aleynikov, a naturalized U.S. citizen who prosecutors said earned $400,000 a year, appeared July 4 in Manhattan federal court and was ordered held on $750,000 bail. He was planning to earn three times his salary by joining a new company and engaging in high-volume automated trading, according to the complaint.
The case is U.S. v. Aleynikov, U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York
