Financial Times мимоходом объясняет: аs deals get executed in billionths of a second, the costs of staying in the technology race have squeezed profit margins.

"Billionth of a second" по-простому называется наносекундой. Конечно, чтобы в рамках существующих законов физики заключить сделку за несколько наносекунд, потребовалось бы, чтобы и продавец, и покупатель оба находились внутри одного и того же чипа. На деле же отправить заказ занимает микросекунды, а получить подтверждение (а какая без этого заключенная сделка?) - миллисекунды. T.e. oшибка сразу в миллион раз.

Сама новость, впрочем, довольно нетривиальная.
