birdwatcherChicago will open an economic development office in Shanghai in an effort to accelerate business relations and trade, Mayor Richard Daley announced Thursday.
The idea is to encourage Chinese companies to locate here and to help small and medium-sized local firms tap the Chinese market, Daley said.
"The primary job of this office will be to help Chinese companies expand into the Chicago market by providing them with a business-friendly bridge and practical assistance," the mayor said at a City Hall news conference. "By helping more Chinese companies locate in Chicago, we believe we can create thousands of good jobs in the years ahead."
