The teen drinking ordinance, proposed by Ald. Edward Burke (14th), would make it unlawful for any adult to host minors consuming alcohol. Violators could be hit with a fine of $50 to $200 for each youngster found drinking as well as the possibility of
3 days to 6 months behind bars.

We already say it is illegal to buy alcohol for minors or to dispense alcohol to minors," said Ald. Freddrenna Lyle (6th). "This is just an additional step to try to reinforce with parents that it is not a good idea to bring children into your house and let them drink."

"I absolutely support it," said Ald. Ginger Rugai (19th). "Maybe we should have added mandatory counseling as well." Such a provision would counter the possibility that some violators "would just write a check, but nothing would be achieved," she said.
