Куда интереснее другой вопрос: должен ли он был соврать на вопрос судьи "if уou disagreed with the law the defendant was accused of violating, would you still be willing to vote for conviction if you thought he was guilty"? Совершенно очевидно, что обязан был соврать, что да.
