CHICAGO TRIBUNE -- For more than a year, Lorraine Diasio resisted sending her husband, Phillip, to an adult day-care center in Schaumburg even as her own health deteriorated under the crushing demands of caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's disease.
"See, nobody could take care of him better than I could. That's what was in my head," said Diasio, 75. "It's almost like sending your child off to school. You're feeling guilty, like, 'Why can't I take care of him?' "
