On the tape, Day says that on the day of the election, he was approached by another man who was going to every floor of the hotel and promising residents $5 to vote. After that, Day said that he and eight to 10 other residents of the building headed across State Street, where they met a second man, described as well-dressed with a ponytail, who gave them a flier for Perez and Eady. Day described the group of men who ventured over from 1007 S. State to South Loop School, three blocks away at 1212 S. Plymouth Court, as "
addicts, users and alcoholics." Day also said that he never knew South Loop School existed before the election. On the tape, Day says that the man in the ponytail returned to the New Ritz after the election, paying each voter $5 and paying the man who organized the voting $5 for every voter.
