The number of people treated for heroin problems in Cook County increased 54 percent in 2005 from the year before, Donahue said last week in his remarks to the House Subcommittee on Criminal Justice, Drug Policy and Human Resources.

As more people are using heroin, more heroin appears to be laced with Fentanyl, he said.

"The use of this drug has left unsuspecting heroin abusers the victims of overdose and death," Donahue told the subcommittee.

"Overdose" -- это по-английски называeтся, когда продают неизвестно что. Если вам в магазине, не дай бог, вместо соды продадут яд для тараканов, или смесь этих двух веществ, это будет называться, что вы умерли от передозировки соды.

Heroin laced with the prescription painkiller Fentanyl has killed more than 40 people in the Chicago area in the last year.

Heroin, cocaine and marijuana are all increasing substantially, said Tom Green, spokesman for the Illinois Department of Human Services.
