Nov. 7th, 2007 10:40 amCHICAGO TRIBUNE -- A Highwood man claiming to be armed and have hostages barricaded himself in a room at a Red Roof Inn in Deerfield on Tuesday morning, police said.
But a few hours later, after officers fired tear gas into the room and Salmon Hernandez, 28, came out, neither a weapon nor hostages were found, said Deputy Chief Tom Keane, a Deerfield police spokesman.
Hernandez remained in police custody early Tuesday afternoon as detectives tried to figure out why he did what he did.
