birdwatcherJames Heckman: Let me give you a startling finding about achievement gaps. Suppose you pay children in the 5th and 6th grades, right when you think of the achievement gap opening up between blacks and whites, to take an IQ test.
Say you have unmotivated black kids living in the middle of the ghetto and white kids from Scarsdale or some other upper-class neighborhood. You give each kid who gets a successful answer one M&M -- just give them an M&M -- and you say for each point extra on the IQ test, each correct answer, I'll give you one more M&M. It turns out that the gap between the black and white student in the IQ test scores vanishes -- vanishes completely.

Date: 2013-02-25 02:51 pm (UTC)2. Сейчас, в современной американской школе, учителя постоянно, начиная с К, выдают M&M за правильные ответы. Выдают наклейки, резинки, карандаши, леденцы и кучу другого копеечного мусора. Судя по результатам, не помогает. Возможно, к пятому классу выдавать перестают, поэтому на участников экперимента это локально подействовало, но долгосрочного эффекта такой подход не дает.
3. Если помнишь, на матмехе была обычная стипендия, повышенная (+10 рублей) и ленинская (+30 рублей). Людей, которые бы ради денег старались сдать все на пятерки, по понятным причинам там не было, одного желания было все-таки недостаточно, но и людей, которые бы исключительно ради денег пересдали тройки, там тоже почти не было, хотя на это было способны все, кто там учился. Я знаю ОДНОГО такого человека, но у нее ситуация была уж очень необычная.
