Nope, kreteks distributed in the U.S. are NOT more harmful than regular or mentholated cigarettes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kretek#Health_effects).
And please see: [livejournal.com profile] legalize_kretek, especially this entry (http://community.livejournal.com/legalize_kretek/2005.html). On that, we can agree.

Не верю! (c). 14-days toxicity study is outrageously ridiculous and hardly applicable to anything. My feeling (*not* an opinion 'cause there's not much solid data to base an opinion on) is that kreteks are worse nevertheless. Granted, the data from the other side, the one that claims higher risks, are inconclusive as well.

If there is more vegetative matter other than tobacco in the isochoric system, then how can it be less healthful if the volume would otherwise be filled with tar and tobacco? I mean, can we agree that cloves are not really harmful? Nutmeg is another issue, but cloves are just nice and spicy. Kreteks were originally created for medicinal/analgesic reasons.

Ну, почему нет? Did you try 30 grams of clove, somehow?
