The Hummer, on the other hand, costs a more fiscal $1.95 per mile to put on the road over an expected lifetime of 300,000 miles. That means the Hummer will last three times longer than a Prius and use less combined energy doing it.

Combined значит бензин, сгорающий в двигателе при езде, плюс потраченный во время производства машины.
Проблема не в слове "combined", а в "and". То, что Хаммер ездит 300 тысяч, а Приус - 100 тысяч, не является дополнительным преимуществом Хаммера к более дешевой миле, а обьясняет, за счет чего образуется эта дешевая миля.

С точки зрения потребления энергии выгоднее освещать дом газовой горелкой, чем лампочкой, которая питается электричеством, получаемым от сжигания газа. С точки зрения чистоты воздуха лучше, чтобы газ жгли не у меня в квартире, а где-нибудь подальше. Так и тут - засирание природы в провинции Онтарио есть сугубо делом онтарийцев. Это хороший аргумент. Если в Онтарио живут чудаки, грех этим не пользоваться. Но это не зеленый аргумент -- глобальному потеплению, понимаемому в зеленом смысле, неважно, где именно произведен углекислый газ: погибнет вся планета.

OK, but also Divide X per 300K and you will get $1.95. So, X - 585000...
Not only numbers are rather strange, they even contradict each other. There could be some sense behind that, but this specific piece looks like naive Primus bashing that pretends to be objective using random numbers.
